Formed in 1967 in Chicago, Illinois, the band originally called themselves The Chicago Transit Authority, but later shortened their name to simply Chicago. The founding members included Robert Lamm, Peter Cetera, Terry Kath, Danny Seraphine, Lee Loughnane, James Pankow, and Walter Parazaider. As of 2024, Robert, James, and Lee all still tour with the band.

Their self-titled debut album, "Chicago Transit Authority," was released in 1969 and showcased their eclectic style, incorporating elements of jazz and rock into an innovative sound. The album received critical acclaim and set the stage for their subsequent success.

In 1970, Chicago performed at Tanglewood, a renowned music venue in Massachusetts. It was written by Robert Lamm and is about trying to write a song in the middle of the night. "25 or 6 to 4" has become one of Chicago's most iconic and enduring songs, known for its catchy riff and dynamic arrangement.
