Описание к видео How to Write an Elevator Pitch

I'll be showing you how to write an elevator pitch on this week's episode of MasterTalk. Register for one of my FREE communication trainings: https://www.rockstarcommunicator.com/

1. Understand that 1 size never fits all. (0:38)

What I find most coaches don’t really cover that much is you can’t just have 1 elevator pitch, you need a different one based on what goals you’re trying to achieve. Introducing yourself at a social gathering is very different than giving your 30-60 second pitch in an interview which is also different from trying to sell your services to a prospective client. For one interview I did at my current job, I tailored my elevator pitch, which in this case, was the answer to “Tell Me About Yourself” to that company’s specific needs and requirements for the job, which also varies a lot from different companies I’ve applied for and worked for in the past, so keep that in mind, I know I say this all the time but the goal and objective matters here. This is how to write an elevator pitch.

2. Have an overarching theme. (2:08)

Generally, when I start an elevator pitch, it always starts with my name and the overarching theme for my elevator pitch, this is not really a hard rule, but rather another way of creativity looking at elevator pitches. For instance, my name is Brenden and if there was 1 sentence to describe me best, it would be my passion for people or my passion for helping others achieve rocket level success. Depending on what type of elevator pitch you’re giving, you can be as creative as you’d like, but let’s say in a client setting, the overarching theme becomes the problem you are solving for the LISTENER. I also like defending that theme/thesis with 3 main points. So, in other words, 3 statements that help justify my passion for people or my passion for helping others achieve rocket level success. This is how to write an elevator pitch.

3. Write It OUT in Full, Word for Word and Tweak Every Word Until It’s Perfect (3:51)

One of the few exceptions I make when writing out presentations (which is general not a bad strategy, by the way) is when you are giving VERY, small presentations. In this case, an elevator pitch can be anywhere from 30 to 60s, depending on the situation, so it’s every word is worth 10 diamonds. Every single one needs to count without exception, so the best way to make sure of that is to write out the whole thing, plain and simple. Back to my interview examples, I wrote out all my Tell Me About Yourself pitches word for word before I went into those interviews and aced them, so it’s definitely a trick I still use after becoming a great public speaker. Afterwards, much like my speaking in a second language video, you want to practice it out so that critics can help you keep only what’s golden and cut out everything syllable that’s not adding value to your very limited ideas and pitch. This is how to write an elevator pitch.
