The importance of the Medical Park project at Kasetsart University is due to several reasons. Thailand is entering an aging society, with a large number of elderly people who require care and treatment. At the same time, Thailand has declared itself as the leader and hub in international healthcare. Kasetsart University itself has excelled in agriculture and food, as well as veterinary medicine, which are the important foundations for health and medical science.

With comprehensive knowledge in science, agriculture, veterinary medicine, food, and bioscience, the Faculty of Medicine at Kasetsart University, along with the Medical Park project, was established in the context of agricultural medicine, health innovation, and biotechnology. This can be utilized to integrate knowledge with global health sciences.

Therefore, the framework for producing medical professionals at Kasetsart University must be the medical personnels with understanding knowledge of agriculture, in order to create the identity of our Medicine program.

As for the preparations by the Faculty of Medicine to accept medical students in the year 2024, the curriculum is divided into two parts. The faculty has appointed professors for the pre-clinical part, who have been sponsored by various faculties to prepare for the teaching of the pre-clinical subjects.

As for the clinical part, we have already obtained a cooperation agreement from the Ministry of Public Health. Our curriculum focuses on active learning, making the students to become the center and using an integrated teaching approach. We will combine the knowledge from the pre-clinical part, the clinical part, agricultural science, and health system science together. Because the important essence of studying medicine is practical experience. Kasetsart University has a network of affiliated hospitals that are large in size. Along with the network hospitals and the central hospital of Kasetsart University, there are institutions that have been nurturing medical professionals for the country for over 50 years, namely Phramongkutklao College of Medicine.

It can be said that we are one of the important universities in the world. 80 years ago, we wanted to see the second S curve, which is to strengthen Kasetsart University. We know that there is a severe shortage of medical and nursing professionals in Thailand. We have discussed this with the university management and alumni. We requested approval from the Kasetsart University Council to establish the Kasetsart University Medical Park project.

The important thing is that we will have a sufficient number of large hospitals to be able to teach medical students. We proposed a budget to the government and received support from all sectors. Kasetsart University will strengthen its medical field. Therefore, the project was approved by the Thai cabinet in January 2023, with a budget of 8,863,934,300 baht, which is a large-scale project. As Kasetsart University has previously requested for budget allocation, the project will be implemented in phases, including the construction of hospitals, the establishment of the Faculty of Medicine, the Faculty of Nursing, and other related faculties. From 2024 to 2027, when completed, there will be an increase of approximately 2,000 staff members, and the location for the Faculty of Medicine, Faculty of Pharmacy, Faculty of Nursing, and Faculty of Dentistry will be prepared.

The medical park project of Kasetsart University covers an area of 50 rai, divided into the construction of the Faculty of Medicine, Faculty of Nursing, and Faculty of Dentistry, as well as a 400 beds hospital on 25 rai of land. Another 25 rai of land will be designed as a medical park to be a sustainable green hospital. The medical park project will be located near Vibhavadi Rangsit Road, close to the Red Line BTS station.

I would like to invite everyone to join and support the hospital of Kasetsart University, with the intention of making Thailand to be the center of medical excellence and ensuring good health for the Thai people. We are waiting our incoming first generation medical student and would like to grow up together. Moreover, our potential medical graduates can become part of our Kasetsart University Hospital in the future by being medical professors, nursing professors, or nurses at Kasetsart University Hospital.

Kasetsart University believes that the establishment of a medical faculty will accelerate the university into a medical institution that focuses on medical science and serves as an educational and healthcare institution that promotes tangible health benefits for the general public. This is to ensure the good health of the people and to become a global center for medical services, as well as a lifelong learning university.
