Computer generations are defined by the technological advancements and design improvements that occur during a specific period of time. These advancements can include changes in hardware architecture, processing speed, memory capacity, and input/output capabilities.
Here are some of the generations of computers:
First Generation: Used vacuum tubes and was developed from the 1940s to the 1950s
Second Generation: Used transistors and was developed from the 1950s to the 1960s
Third Generation: Used integrated circuits (ICs) and was developed from the 1960s to the 1970s. ICs made computers smaller, cheaper, and faster.
Fourth Generation: Used microprocessors and was developed from the 1970s to the present. Microprocessors allowed for the development of microcomputers and the first personal computers.
Fifth Generation: Used massively parallel computing and logic programming. The Fifth Generation Computer Systems was a 10-year initiative launched by Japan's Ministry of International Trade and Industry from 1982 to 1994.
