May 26, 2014, Kalibo, Aklan, Philippines—Seven leaders of militant organizations under Bagong Alyansang Makabayan (BAYAN)-Aklan, filed their counter affidavit at the office of the Provincial Prosecutor in Aklan, against the libel case charged against them by Corporal Erniel L. Mendoza aka Mallan Mendoza, a member of a regular force of Philippine Army assigned with CMO Battalion as Anchorperson in the Philippine Army Hour, a Sunday regular radio program aired in radio stations DYIN Bombo Radio-Kalibo, RMN DYKR and IBC DYRG in Kalibo, Aklan, went to Purok 2, of C. Laserna Street in Poblacion, Kalibo, Aklan.
"We strongly denied the crime being charged against us by Cpl. Mendoza, for we believe that the statement stipulated in our petition letter addressed to the Provincial Government, does not express libellous lines, as what Cpl. Mendoza is trying to declare. Thus, the said petition is an expression of our exercise of our democratic and constitutionally guaranteed right to representation, expression of our freedom to redress grievances against acts and practices of whosoever public authorities whose posture attempts to curtail and at stake people's human rights." The crime of Libel was charged against Mr. Calaor together with Nenita F. Tugna, the Provincial Coordinator of Human Rights Alliance KARAPATAN-Aklan, Antonio R. Esmeralda, the Provincial Chairperson of Pambansang Samahan ng Lakas ng Mamamalakaya ng Pilipinas (PAMALAKAYA)-Aklan, Esterllita M. Magluyan, the Provincial Chairperson of Pagtililibyog it mga Mangunguma sa Aklan (PANGUMA), Fernan V. Zabal, the Provincial Coordinator of ANAKBAYAN-Aklan, Nida A. Acuesta, the Provincial Coordinator of Samahan ng mga Ex-Detainees Laban Sa Detention at Amnestiya (SELDA)-Aklan and Kim-Sin F. Tugna, the Provincial Chairperson of Kalipunan ng Damayang Mahihirap (KADAMAY)-Aklan.
Around 250 members of militant organizations under BAYAN also hold a picket near the Provincial Prosecutor's Office of Aklan during the filing of counter affidavit of their leaders, and the group then marched going to crossing Banga-New Washington to as show of support to their leaders and to condemn the crime being accused against their representatives. ###
