Rituals are important for communities and for increasing community engagement. The word ‘ritual’ is derived from the Latin word ‘ritualis’, associated with the word ‘rite’ which comes from ‘ritus’, typically understood to mean a type of ceremony or custom.

Rituals help us to punctuate our lives — such as naming our babies, marriage, funerals, and so forth and within many of these rituals themselves, status and hierarchy within our communities are reinforced over time.

If we talk about the communities around us, we will find that rituals give us a sense of control over everything we do, it's the most practical and down-to-earth kind of approach that increases community engagement.
