Raag Description: This Raag is a fine blend of Raag Yaman in Uttarang and Raag Puriya or Raag Puriya Dhanashri in Poorvang. In Avroh, Kalyang Ang (S' N D P M D N D P) is followed by P M g M r G r S - Raag Puriya Dhanashri Ang or M D g M g ; M g r S - Raag Puriya Ang.

In Raag Puriya Kalyan, Pancham is a prominent note. However, in Aaroh use of Pancham is Alp like in Raag Yaman (M D N S'). Shadj (Sa) is also generally skipped in both Aaroh and Avroh. Aalaps and Taans generally start from Nishad. The following combinations clearly bring out the melodic mood of Raag Puriya Kalyan:
