You don't see it that much, a maple fretboard on an acoustic guitar. The '75-'85 area was a rich period of experimentation. Especially along Japanese brands. So why not fixing a maple fretboard on an acoustic box? Neck and sides of the guitar are also maple and the backside is maple with a tapered strip of jacaranda wood in the middle. The top is spruce though. There were a few other models with a maple fretboard: the 699 and the 670. I can't tell what top they had, it's just not mentioned in the catalogue.
There didnt seem to be a big market for maple fretboards after all, you don't see them on modern guitars anymore.
The 671 sounds a bit trebly, even a little thin. That's not the sound most people want. But it can be very useful on recordings, I guess. I'm gona try that soon
