Day 4 was a very hot, long and exciting day. It started with a beautiful sight over the hills where the clouds were trying to work their way through. A very long and steep climb over the mountains and a very nice encounter with a group of 4 scouts from Barcelona that joined me on the long, sweaty last part of the etappe. It was amazing how I could connect and inspire these youngsters so easily through my project. They were motivated from the first minute to help me with cleaning the Camino. They also helped me out with the exchange that worked perfectly due to their ability to explain my project very clear in their own language. We got a lot of appreciation and respect from family we asked for an exchange that paid off in a big bag of chestnuts!

After helping out the local fireman with a bushfire, we finally arrived in the monastery where we were able to stay that night. A very special place where they create a beautiful welcoming atmosphere and so much unity between the pelgrims. Also the mess was one of kind that I will never forget. A special experience that I would recommend to everyone.

Camino Clean Up Series: Daily posts about my ‘social garbage pilgrimage’ of more then 1000km on the Camino Santiago de Compostela. During these hard kilometers, I’m also challenging myself to pick up garbage while walking the toughest route of the Camino de Norte. To show people that this work is greatly appreciated, I’m trying to trade my collected garbage for ‘something in appreciation’ with local people. I want to inspire and motivate people to start doing the same when they go out for a walk. The world would be a lot more beautiful if everyone feels a little bit of responsibility, picks up a few pieces of garbage and is more aware of the littering problem.
