Walk along the beach at Viking Bay, Broadstairs, located near Ramsgate and Margate. Viking Bay in Broadstairs Kent is a popular seaside town made even more famous due to the fact that it was the favourite holiday destination of Charles Dickens. Dickens loved the place so much he leased a huge house on the clifftop overlooking the beach and the sea where he gazed down onto Viking Bay and wrote his novel David Copperfield. The house has since been renamed Bleak House in his honour.

There's more to Viking Bay than Charles Dickens however and as you will see Broadstairs offers holidaymakers and day visitors so much. Whether it's a nice quiet peaceful beach walk from the harbour to the famous Broadstairs beach lift, or whether it's a rowdy pub crawl in one of the many Viking Bay pubs this place has it all. I think the beach, the old town, Bleak House, the Charles Dickens references everywhere can certainly pleasantly surprise any first time visitor to Broadstairs Kent.

Sandwiched between the better-known towns of Margate and Ramsgate, Broadstairs is often overlooked, but for our money, it's the best of the three. It doesn't tend to get quite as busy as Margate (yet), but its sandy, sheltered beach Viking Bay is one of the best in the south-east.1

Viking Bay is the most popular beach in the British seaside town of Broadstairs. The crescent of sand is one of Broadstairs main draws although competition is pretty stiff from other nearby beaches such as the ever popular Joss Bay, Botany Bay, Ramsgate and Margate.

Today there is a replica Viking long ship on display at Pegwell Bay. This replica was actually rowed across the North Sea in 1949 and landed at was then called Main Bay in Broadstairs - now renamed Viking Bay in honour of this event.

Situated between Margate and Ramsgate, Broadstairs is one of Thanet's seaside resorts, known as the "jewel in Thanet's crown". The town's coat of arms's Latin motto is Stella Maris ("Star of the Sea").

A haven for families, Viking Bay's sweeping sandy bay offers all the trappings you'd expect from a seaside resort. A tidal pool, children's rides, deck chair hire and surf school provide plenty of entertainment for a day at the beach here in Broadstairs 2021.
