Thermal Throttling - An automatic unchangeable system where newer graphics cards will return itself to Standard 2D settings and lock itself there. If your GPU hangs, which it should when you hit the max Core Clock, go to the nVidia/ATI website and download and reinstall the lastest drivers for your graphics card.
Make sure to save your settings after you are finish in RivaTuner.

I do recommend an extra GPU cooler whether it be a waterblock or an aftermarket fan to cool down your GPU.
Also make sure that you have a decent power supply for overclocking as an overclocked processor and graphics card will suck more wattage from your PSU.
