The Survey of Rural Decision Makers is the largest and longest running pan-sector survey of New Zealand’s primary industry. Administered every second year since 2013, the questionnaire covers topics of broad interest to the primary sector, including land use and land-use change, management priorities and practices, profitability, values, and future planning. The most recent survey also included questions on technological adoption, catchment groups, climate and weather, irrigation, the regulatory environment, farm advisors, and other topics.

In this webinar, we touch briefly on management priorities, both past and future. We then take a deep dive into ton topic – namely, technological adoption. We focus at first on mitigation of agricultural greenhouse gases and then broaden the discussion to other types of technologies. In both cases, we identify the factors that give pause to those who describe themselves as being unlikely to adopt new technologies in the future.
