Tandem Dual Dump (DD) Quick Walkaround

This week’s trailer is the massive, 20-foot Tandem Dual Dump (DD). The DD is built on a 12-inch, 19-pound I-beam frame and is available in 16, 18, and 20-foot lengths. With a potential load capacity of 14.22, 16, or 17.78 cubic yards (depending on length), this trailer is ideal for transporting large amounts of material to and from the job site.

The DD is equipped with a 25,000-pound, 2 5/16 gooseneck coupler with a PJ all-weather wiring harness and a top mounted spare tire. This trailer can also be optioned in bumper-pull or pintle configurations.

The dump bed is equipped with a built-in ladder on the curb-side that provides easy access to cargo and materials that would, otherwise, be difficult to see.

The DD comes standard with 36-inch, 10-gauge steel sides but can be upgraded to 48 or 72-inch sides. The DD in this video is upgraded to 48-inch sides. This increases the capacity from 17.78 to 23.7 cubic yards. All dump side options are removable.

Equipped with dual 5-inch hydraulic cylinders and a 10-ton scissor lift, the DD provides a 45-degree dump angle.

The dump bed is 96-inches wide and built with a 10-gauge steel floor. This has been reinforced with 3-inch channel cross members on 16-inch centers for added rigidity.

The trailer’s running gear consists of tandem, dual 10,000-pound Dexter axles with electric brakes on a 5-leaf, slipper-spring suspension. This provides a GVWR of 25,000-pounds.

The rear of this DD has been optioned with a split spreader gate. This provides the ability to evenly spread aggregates like sand and gravel or fully open the doors for quick removal of material and debris. Optioned with the 70-inch, rear slide-in ramps, the DD can also transport wider equipment like excavators, skid steers, and tractors.
