Here at #Nosler, we employ two distinct manufacturing processes: cup and draw, as well as impact extrusion. The simpler of the two, cup and draw, commences with a thin copper ribbon. Machines punch out discs that evolve into cups, drawn into jackets after. Suitable for target rounds, it is efficient but not for performance big game cartridges requiring thicker copper jackets. This is where the impact extrusion method steps in for performance hunting rounds. Solid copper wire is cut into slugs, which undergo annealing at over 1,200 degrees to soften them. They're then drawn into jackets, with a punch shaping the slug's interior, a press adding the lead core, tapering the jacket, and finally, inserting the bullet's tip. This impact extrusion method empowers us to engineer precise terminal performance by controlling jacket thickness for controlled expansion.
