Dead Heading your flowers just means cutting off the old old flowers in order to free up some of the plants energy, hopefully causing fresh flowers to bloom.

I do this pretty often to the roses, but the lavender will only get one or two haircuts. With a big lavender bush, it turns into a lot of chopping, took a while.
