. Sensory re-education therapy is a technique used to help retrain the damaged brain to recognize and interpret sensations that a person has lost, typically due to nerve injury or neurological damage. The goal is to stimulate the brain to adapt and receive sensory signals in a new way, allowing patients to perceive stimuli differently but effectively. This therapy may involve simple activities like placing various objects (e.g., a glass, Velcro, paper, or an orange) on a table and asking the patient to identify them by touch with eyes closed, then confirming by sight. Another method includes hiding objects in a bowl of uncooked rice to improve tactile discrimination. Temperature awareness can also be retrained using cold and warm towels on the affected area to help the patient recognize differences in sensation. Over time, these exercises can reduce numbness, enhance sensory perception, and significantly improve the patient's overall quality of life.
