Our viewers have been asking us to visit SaiDatt Bhojanalaya. And we have eaten there in the past, quite some time back. So we’re looking forward to refreshing our memory and having a great lunch today

To get to SaiDatt in Kavlem, from the Devi Shri Shantadurga temple, keep following the road towards the Ramnathi temple. Just half a kilometre ahead of the Shantadurga mandir is SaiDatt Bhojanalaya on the right. Watch out for the Saidatt signboard as the restaurant is not right on the road. You can park a little ahead on this road, or even at the Shantadurga temple parking nearby. Cross underneath the signboard to the courtyard beyond and you will then see SaiDatt restaurant on your left.

This is a no frills, no nonsense, amazing eatery. Today we are having one veg thali (Rs 100), one bangda thali (Rs 170) and one plate of prawns (Rs 250).

The place is very nice. Cool and calm, not much of crowd. It’s away from the crowds, and food is even very nice and tasty. Simple

Saidatt Bhojanalaya, the Naik family’s restaurant, is a simple place without much to distract you from the food. Besides the outdoor seating, they also have four comfortable tables indoors.

Lesley's prawns thali has prawns and drumstick curry, kulleo, teesrio, chapati, rice, nal codi, and a beautiful piece of bangdo (mackerel). And Maria’s veg thali has nirponnos (breadfruit) fodi, pickle, flower bhaji, narl codi, dal, rice, tendli tonnak (ivy gourd curry) and roti.

This is a place to talk less and eat more. Just be interested in the food.

After such a meal, siesta is the only option. SaiDatt’s wonderful meal has put the smile back on our faces. And it cost so little. Just Rs 500

Hi guys, the lunch was very, very tasty, and after a long time, I had veg thali and it was simple. It tasted like home food and very light on the stomach

What a meal that was. What a meal! It was so good that we could not even properly film, we were so busy eating. Normally we yak a lot in between. ‘Oh wow see the prawn is like this, the crab is like that’, but today we were just eating, eating.

We had done a lot of running around and while we were sitting there so many people had come in, so beautifully dressed, they had gone and said their prayers at the temple, and then they had come for lunch. Just like us, everybody was so hungry. And it’s like you go about doing your work and you come to Saidatt and then you have lunch as if your avoi (mother) made it. Just sublime.

Whenever you’re in Kavlem, don’t think twice, just come to SaiDatt. It’s just a little bit in off the road. Walk a few steps in and it’s like you’ve gone home for lunch. Too good!
