Barotrauma means the pressure changes which can affect the ear or trauma changes which affect the ear. So this happens when there is change in the altitude, like in fight or when in a flight changes during takeoff and the landing or sudden changes in the air pressure in the cabin. Also it can happen during divjng.so if you go for deep sea diving, there will be sudden pressure change which affect the ear sometimes there can be blasts, air blasts that can cause sudden pressure changes in the inner ear also. So these changes are seen because the ear is a closed chamber where the outer layer is the ear drum and it is connected to the back side of the nose through the Eustachian tube. If the Eustachian tube is blocked, it is a closed cavity and suddenly because there is a change in pressure and if it is not compensated, it causes burst of the ear drum, where there can be ear discharge and bleeding and there will be severe pain. Sometimes the inner ear can be affected and if they can cause sudden hearing loss and also giddiness.
