Partially inspired by the 17-year-stay of Mehran Karimi Nasseri in the Charles de Gaulle International Airport in Paris, France from 1988 to 2006, the 2004 movie The Terminal tells the story of Viktor Navorsky, a man innocently trapped in New York’s John F. Kennedy Airport when a civil war breaks out in his fictional home country of Krakozhia. The United States no longer recognizes the sovereignty of Krakozhia, leaving Viktor in a diplomatic limbo in which he can neither enter the United States nor board a plane to anywhere else. "Viktor’s Tale" is an arrangement of the prominent clarinet solo theme Williams’ used to portray Viktor. The music has an East European flavor with a hint of Klezmer style.
