HIV is the virus that causes AIDS. HIV is considered a sexually transmitted disease (STD) because it can be transmitted through certain sexual behaviors. While there is no cure for HIV, there are medicines that can help people live long and healthy lives like people with other chronic diseases (such as diabetes).
