How to take the Songthaew - Cheap Thai Transport to Koh Samui Immigration

Today we are going to show you how to take the Songthaew in Koh Samui. We will be taking you on a short adventure to show you how to get to any point on the island if you are here, and do not with to rent a car of a motorcycle

The Songthaew is essentially a taxi-bus that takes you around the entire island of Koh Samui. It is the cheapest, and safest way to get around the island. The price of a ride is 50 baht per person in Lamai, and 100 baht if you are travelling around in the Chaweng- Bophut areas.

You can make your way around the island fairly quickly, the only draw back is that the Songthaew does not take you into the inner areas of the island, but only around the outer main road. If you would like to go to places located in the inner circle,

The transport comes about every 30 minutes, and starts running at about 8 AM, and finishes at some point not too late in the evening.

There are no other public transportation methods available on the island, so if you are uncomfortable taking this method, we recommend renting a motorcycle, taking a taxi, or renting a car.

The Songthaew only stops if you flag it down like a taxi, and you are expected to pay once you get off. Inside there is a little bell button on the roof to signal the driver that you want to get off.

You can get to all of the beaches using this form of transportation, including Lamai beach, Chaweng beach, Bhoput, Maenam... etc

We took a trip to show you the general route that the Songthaew takes here, then paid a quick visit to Maenam beach while waiting for the visa center to finish their job.
