In recent years, Brazilian butt lift (BBL) surgery has come under scrutiny for its rate of complications. The procedure’s quick rise to popularity and unprincipled surgeons both contributing to the problem. Studies revealed these safety issues resulted in part from the use of an incorrect and dangerous injection method. As Dr. Agha explains, most board-certified plastic surgeons practicing today are informed about the best injection practices to avoid these complications. Performed correctly by a highly-qualified plastic surgeon, the Brazilian butt lift a safe and effective procedure.

We pride ourselves on educating our patients on the procedures they’re undergoing and empowering them to make informed choices about their body. When you consult with Dr. Agha or any plastic surgeon, do not be afraid to ask them about the history of the BBL, and their own history with the procedure.

A good surgeon should be transparent and honest explaining the safety risk: if the fat is injected into the gluteal muscle or below the muscle, there is a risk that it can enter your bloodstream and cause a pulmonary embolism, or blood vessel blockage. Surgeons should use safer liposuction and fat transfer technique’s to prevent this complication, including thicker, blunt-tip cannulas for injection and a shallow injection angle that avoids the gluteal muscle.

With that being said, Dr. Agha uses specialized instruments and techniques for microinjection to ensure that the blood supply to the newly transplanted cells is optimal. This maximizes fat cell survival in their new location within the buttock tissues. The fat micrografting process allows your buttocks to be contoured to your desired size and shape. Dr. Agha can greatly increase the fullness and projection of your backside by layering many fine layers of fat micrografts throughout your buttocks’ fatty tissues.

Dr. Agha’s unique technique ensures that as much as 80% of the transferred fat will survive in its new location. But because around 20% of the injected fat will be reabsorbed, Dr. Agha usually exaggerates grafting to ensure optimal augmentation.
