Kutiyattam: the tradition of sanskrit theatre | INDIA

Описание к видео Kutiyattam: the tradition of sanskrit theatre | INDIA

We're in Kerala, a state in southern India, the birthplace and sole home of Kutiyattam - a form of theatre recognised by UNESCO as a Masterpiece of the Intangible Heritage of Humanity. The name "Kutiyattam" literally means "combined acting". This form of art combines many codes.

Tonight, Kutiyattam will be a dramatic performance rather than a sacred offering. [if there is time, the following sentence as well] This type of performance is called "Karhtccha Kuttu": "Kuttu - to be seen". The Death of Jatayu, the act performed this evening, is taken from a 10th-century drama: The Wondrous Crest Jewel, by the poet Shaktibhadra.
