Can the embodiment of different metrical levels, induced by the musical structure, shape how we experience time?

This talk describes an experiment where listeners tapped while listening to different pieces of music and reported their temporal experience, expressed in how long each piece was and how fast time passed for them. The musical stimuli presented manipulated musical meter, a hierarchy established among musical beats that causes some beats to be perceived as more relevant than others. Musical meter, here manipulated through the presence of 4 different piano accompaniments at different rates, affected how participants tapped to music, how long they judged music to be, and (less significantly) how fast time passed for them.
