Dustin Bates' Vocal Range

Описание к видео Dustin Bates' Vocal Range

The shadowy vocalist behind the space-rock band Starset as well as the underrated hardrock/alt-metal band Downplay, Dustin is starting to establish himself a wanted name and critical acclaims behind his genius materials. Not only possessing one of the most unique and brilliant voices to date, Dustin's versatility and creavity are highly admirable, and his fantastic studio ouput simply cannot be replicated to an extent

Dustin's distinctive voice has been his precious tool throughout the years and his colorful tone that is dark and emotive yet bright and rounded, makes him sound really appealing and interesting. Bate's reperotire is amazingly huge as he has demonstrated by showcasing a variety of singing approaches such as belting, screaming, bouncing falsettos, twanging, clean-singing, and while most of his lead vocals take place at the upper range, his low register is super resonant and rich, which gives another face to the perfection. Dustin's versatility also comes from the fact that his voice has also evolved over the years; starting from a fresh, hatchling and bright-voice, he had fairly developed his voice to sing a little higher up to the end of the forth octave in chest voice while bouncing some beautiful falsetto in the 5th octave at times, plus gaining a dark tone, (especially at the low register which was initially noted in the late Downplay's era) and up to the Starset era, where his voice has become more lightweighted, polished and rounded, and occasionally feathery or silky with autotune, while still owning the rich sound and the dark timbre. His warm and smooth singing from the acoustic album Stripped of Downplay is also something that shouldn't be overshadowed. One of the best studio singers in contemporary rock music and arguably the best of all times IMO

*Bates is evidently a baritenor, who has the weight, agility and general timbre of a tenor, along with the natural placement of a baritone which can be mostly heard by his strong, dark and conrolled lows, and by the fact that his upper singing is usually strained, pushy, or simply doesn't sound natural or comfy enough
