श्रवण कुमार की कथा:
श्रवण कुमार एक अत्यंत आदर्श और भक्त पुत्र थे। उनके माता-पिता नेत्रहीन थे और श्रवण उनका पूरी तरह से सेवा करते थे। एक दिन उनके माता-पिता ने तीर्थ यात्रा की इच्छा प्रकट की। श्रवण कुमार ने उन्हें कंधों पर रखे दो टोकरों में बैठाकर तीर्थ यात्रा पर निकले। वो अपने माता-पिता को अलग-अलग तीर्थ स्थानों पर ले जाकर उनकी सेवा कर रहे थे।

राजा दशरथ और श्रवण कुमार की मृत्यु:
इस दौरान अयोध्या के राजा दशरथ भी एक दिन शिकार पर निकले। राजा दशरथ तीरंदाजी में बहुत माहिर थे और उन्हें "श्रवण वेध" नामक तीरंदाजी का ज्ञान था। इस विद्या में तीरंदाज केवल आवाज़ से निशाना साध सकता है। जब श्रवण कुमार सरयू नदी से पानी भर रहे थे, तो पानी भरने की आवाज़ सुनकर राजा दशरथ ने उसे जंगली जानवर समझ लिया और बिना देखे तीर चला दिया।

जब राजा दशरथ ने पास जाकर देखा, तो उन्होंने पाया कि तीर किसी जानवर को नहीं बल्कि श्रवण कुमार को लगा है। श्रवण कुमार घायल अवस्था में ज़मीन पर पड़े थे और उन्होंने राजा दशरथ से अंतिम अनुरोध किया कि वह उनके माता-पिता को पानी दे दें और उन्हें इस घटना की जानकारी दें।

श्राप की कथा:
राजा दशरथ ने श्रवण के माता-पिता को पानी पहुंचाया और उन्हें श्रवण कुमार की मृत्यु के बारे में बताया। यह सुनकर श्रवण के माता-पिता अत्यंत दुखी हुए। उन्होंने राजा दशरथ को श्राप दिया कि जैसे उन्होंने पुत्र-वियोग का दुख झेला है, वैसे ही राजा दशरथ को भी अपने पुत्र वियोग का कष्ट सहना पड़ेगा।

इस श्राप के परिणामस्वरूप, जब भगवान राम को 14 वर्षों के लिए वनवास भेजा गया, तब राजा दशरथ राम के वियोग में अत्यंत दुखी हो गए और अंततः उनकी मृत्यु हो गई।

When Shravan Kumar was filling water from the Saryu river, hearing the sound of filling water, King Dasharatha mistook him for a wild animal and shot an arrow without looking.

When King Dasharath went closer and saw, he found that the arrow had hit Shravan Kumar and not any animal. Shravan Kumar lay on the ground in a wounded state and made a last request to King Dasharath to give water to his parents and inform them about the incident.

The story of the curse:
King Dasharath brought water to Shravan's parents and informed them about Shravan Kumar's death. Hearing this, Shravan's parents were extremely saddened. They cursed King Dasharath that just like they had suffered the pain of son's separation, King Dasharath would also have to suffer the pain of son's separation.
