For cable operators and other broadband service providers, there's nary a dull moment in the regulatory world these days.

Operators are noodling on what's good, bad or ugly about President Donald Trump's One Big Beautiful Bill Act, what fallout may come from changes to the Broadband Equity, Access, and Deployment (BEAD) program, potential burdens tied to a possible government-mandated deadline for the US broadcast transition to ATSC 3.0 – and much more.

Many of these touch the cable industry, including hundreds of independent operators that are represented by ACA Connects. That group's president and CEO, Grant Spellmeyer, joins the Light Reading Podcast to dig into the regulatory landscape ahead of The Independent Show, which is set for August 10-30 in Salt Lake City.

"We certainly have found ourselves at the midway point of 2025 with no shortage of things to talk about, think about, worry about," Spellmeyer says.
