Описание к видео HIGHLANDER ADVENTURE – Day 2 | “Leaving Green Valley Camp, The Serrano, & Pacific Crest Trail ”

Southern California | San Bernardino National Forest | Pacific Crest Trail

GREEN VALLEY — CRAB FLATS
MILES — 13.8 MILES
TOTAL ASCENT : +1,700'
TOTAL DESCENT : -2,900'
DIFFICULTY : MODERATE

On DAY-2, we leave Green Valley Camp in the very cool of the morning, but it didn't take long for that southern Cali sun to heat things up !

On this morning, it felt like there was more to this valley than just another place. Couldn’t exactly put my finger on it…. (But after getting home and researching this area, I discovered what it was….)—We were hiking in ancestral Native American lands and just maybe my own distant Native American "Cherokee" heritage sensed it…. I don’t know, it is interesting to consider. I've always has a fascination with Native American Indians, even from a young age when I first heard of my own distant Cherokee heritage of the southeastern part of the United States.

WHO ARE THEY ?

Who were the Native Americans that populated this area? The "SERRANO......."

The Serrano were an indigenous people of southern California.

Interestingly enough, "Serrano" means "highlander" … very interesting since we were on a “Highlander Hike" .....traversing the desert highlands on "highlander lands."

The Serrano were typically divided into the “Mountain Serrano” and the “Desert Serrano.” Specifically the “Yuhaaviatam” were considered …”PEOPLE OF THE PINES !”

By witness of the surroundings, we were in the desert highlands walking among the Pines.

As the day progresses, we took a wrong turn adding some additional miles before we learned our mistake. No harm, no foul… i chalked it up to just seeing more of the area we were in. After getting back on track, we finally come upon the Pacific Crest Trail (PCT – a 2,650-mile continuous trail from the Mexican border to the Canadian border).

We get to the lowest part of the Highlander hike trail – 5,100’ and there is a small stream where we cool off by dipping our clothing in the water and even some were soaking their feet.

We quickly ascend back out into the exposed high desert again where our previously wet clothing dried almost immediately with environment’s dry air pressing in.

As we continue to hike, we hear sounds of water & people laughing… it’s an oasis in the high desert! we quickly descend down to partake in this jovial scene for a 45 minute break. Soon after, we take back to hiking on the PCT winding & turning until we reach camp—“Crabb Flats.” This another flat camp area under stately desert pines.

The evening was relatively quiet as some participated in watercolor painting their own creative art and other sit around a local botanist describing the area’s flora & fauna.

After the activities and self-made dinner, most retire to their tents and prepare for the next day’s adventure.
