At dawn general Washington encounters a Hessian guardhouse on the road to Trenton. He sends senior officers including Alexander Hamilton on a commando raid of the guardhouse, which is very Splinter Cell - they use swordplay. Sullivan, mentioned in the dialog, must be the XO.
The reservation of swordplay for officers has parallels in the movie The Duelists. Some have argued it is evidence Japanese culture invested us long before we have documented it. In WWII Bonzai attacks by the Japanese were suicide runs where an officer led a charge with a katana while the enlisted men fixed bayonets.
