“It was a great way of meeting new people and pushing yourself of your comfort zone”. Josep Safont hails from Spain and initially studied biotechnology but he changed path and went into textile art. He remembers being fascinated in textiles ever since he saw his grandmother always making something new at her sewing machine. Last year he was a Young Ambassador at Homo Faber, the Foundation’s signature exhibition that takes place again in the autumn of 2020, and this year he took part in the tapestry-making summer school course in Aubusson. During the course he improved some of the areas he felt he wasn’t yet completely adept at, such as drawing, but was able to share some of his own knowledge as well. In the future he wants to create bespoke textiles under his own brand.
