This presentation by Susan Fawcett of the Down Syndrome Resource Foundation was delivered at the Canadian Down Syndrome Pre-Conference for Educators, May 10, 2019 in Victoria, BC.

Discover what we currently know about the overall characteristics and learning style of people who have Down syndrome, and how we can apply this knowledge when working with these students. The impact of health factors, behavioural profiles, cognitive development, and physical and sensory needs are discussed.

Presenter – Susan Fawcett, M.Sc. RSLP, PhD Candidate: Susan has been a Speech-Language Pathologist at the Down Syndrome Resource Foundation for 15 years. She is in the final stages of her PhD program at the University of British Columbia, where she is studying Family-Centered Positive Behaviour Support under Dr. Joe Lucyshyn. Her dissertation project involves examining the impact of a parent training program on the behaviour of children with Down syndrome, as well as parent stress levels.
