G review the new Netflix Original show “Seven Seconds”

This American crime drama is a tale about racial bias and social injustice revolving around the feelings of today of Police and the public.

Pete Joblanski is a narcotics agent for a gang and drug task force within the Jersey City Police Dpt. One morning he accidentally hits a boy named Brenton Butler with his car and instead of helping the boy and calling an ambulance he calls the leader of this task force and the other guys to help hide the body and walk away clean. Brenton’s parents get the call of their nightmares about their son and are desperately trying to find out who did it to avenge their son. We also have assistant prosecutor KJ Harper who is put on the case as well as NY detective Rinaldi an together they are fighting to help the Butler’s while battling a police force that takes care of their own.

This is your typical crime drama that is very timely with what is going on today in our world. Social and racial injustice is everywhere and the people want answers. The performances are pretty solid across the board especially from Regina King and Russel Hornsby who carry this show as the grieving parents. The other characters are portrayed well and you care about them (for the most part).

This is a long show and could have done with some trimming, it does drag and could have dropped an episode of two as well, the show introduced a few more storylines and elements that were fine but deviated from the main story at times. The gang task force Joblanski is a part of doesn’t do much than add a cliché aspect of the crooked cops and the one character Wilcox is basically a cartoon character who you don’t like for the wrong reasons.

Still this is an enjoyable show especially if you are like G and get into American crime drama’s clichés and all!
