This Flight takesoff with the the new MAX8 from Korean Airlines, departing in Seoul, Incheon towards Fukuoka (RJFF), located in southern Japan. I made my flight plan with the current ATIS information. In flight, as I contacted area ATC Japan and received now acknowledgment, I though to myself, something must be wrong. In the meantime ATIS information Fukuoka had changed, and with it the runway to land on. I was 80nm miles out, already having started my descent at 27000 feet. I had a very strong tailwind and decided that I did not want to make a completely new flight plan with arrival (STAR /SID) etc. Thus, I played out an emergency scenario, having to descend as fast as possible to target destination. My descent rate increased to 3500 feet per Minute - first I had to loose speed as not to cause structural damage to the plane, then increase maximum drag by fully extend flaps, speed breaks and even descending landing gear. It was a manual attempt to intercept the ILS localizer at the right height and distance to the airport. For this reason, you’ll see me constantly changing the flight plan, to find out the real time distance to the airport. With the autopilot was constantly correcting, adjusting the vector, descending rate, auto throttle (which the plane was at points in time not able to fulfill). All in all, this ‘emergency descend scenario’ was successful, even though I annoyed tower ATC by announcing my presence on final, having already received clearance. In the hectic of the moment, I probably forgot that…enjoy this unorthodox landing…
