This webinar, presented by Bryony Halpin, Senior Policy Analyst, Ontario Human Rights Commission  (OHRC) provided an understanding of the Ontario Human Rights Code, and the mandate of the Ontario Human Rights Commission. Specifically, Ms. Halpin explained how the OHRC's Policy applies in situations of age discrimination and the more recent work around the intersectionality of age and the rights of older persons.

Ageism plays a significant role in society and gives rise to more broad impacts on policies, programs and legislation that affects a growing demographic.

Ms. Halpin also provided an overview of the applicable sections of the Code which prohibit discrimination because of age, in the area of employment, service and provision of goods, facilities management, housing accommodations, contract administration and memberships in trade and vocational associations.

The Ontario Human Rights Code  states that it is public policy in Ontario to recognize the inherent dignity and worth of every person and to provide for equal rights and opportunities without discrimination.
