WARNING:
That is an old video of my early beginnings and does not reflect anymore my way of working. The intent of publishing this video is to share the different learning phases I went through.

June, 2013 - 5th colt starting ever and 6 months of practical horse experience.

This video is to share the method used to get over the difficulties to start a young, but very dominant and disrespectful, Arabian stallion. He was born in 2009, and has just been halter-broken. He has never been worked and considered himself as the king of the herd, and that included humans: hard to catch, crowding and walking over, never considering the human space. It took me a solid 8-hour process to start him and have a fair horse under the saddle.

All the footage has been performed in Turban Stud's facilities in Gilleleje, Denmark. This European ranch breeds P.R.E. and Arabians.

The video shows the usual exercises that I am used to practice. We can see two phases in this colt-starting video:
1 ) Dominant stallion - That was my first approach to him and it was wrong. I considered the stallion, dominant, potentially dangerous and tried to force my ideas into his mind, which resulted in fighting around the arena. He would move and yield, but not as a partner, never.
2 ) Young horse - I questioned myself and found that I did not follow my own advice: consider any horse as a white sheet of paper, everything has to be written yet. So, I started to ask more gently and wait for him understanding, processing and acting. We got along a lot better afterwards.

I admit that the final result is not perfect, he needs a lot more riding hours. Sometimes, we lose the connection and have to go through a leadership establishment process again (mainly groundwork) until we reconnect _ the more working hours, the less lost connections.

I also wanted to show in this video that natural horsemanship is not a western thing: it works with all horses, all riders, all disciplines. As a matter of fact, the idea of natural horsemanship is just natural behaviour towards the horse, mutual respect and confidence. Yet, never forget the rider's security overall.
