Joe Colombo, the boss of The Colombo Family, was shot 3 times at Colombus Circle in New York in 1971. Carlo Gambino and other members of The Mob admonished him for seeking the spotlight which is likely what led to his assassination attempt. Mobster Joey Gallo was suspected to be the mastermind of the shooting but that is still highly debated. A man named Jerome Johnson carried out the shooting but who ordered him to do it? Was he a lone gunman? Was Joey Gallo behind it? Carlo Gambino?

It still remains a mystery without enough solid evidence to make a strong determination on who was behind it. Columbus Circle has changed a lot in the last 50 years but some of the original key vicinities of the shooting are still around.
