What role do steroids play in seroma management after gynecomastia surgery? Some people asked me this question on our YouTube channel. This is Dr. Amit Gupta, a plastic surgeon. Patients from all over the country come to us for gynecomastia surgery. Seroma is one of the processes in Gynecomastia surgery. Seromas are formed in many patients and in more than 90% of patients, seromas are cured on their own. Why do we give ceroids? We manage surgery after 3 months only with pressure and massage. Even after that, if the seroma persists, then we inject steroids. What is the role of Steroids? These steroids are not for bodybuilding and neither do kidney damage nor create any other problem. These are medical steroids.

The role of these steroids is to melt and break the fibrosis of seroma. It creates softness. May have to give steroid injections 2 or 3 times. 90% of patients who develop seromas improve with steroid injections to the point that no touch-up surgery is needed. This is the role of steroids. If we inject the steroids after the seroma then no need to worry. It is completely safe and there are no side effects.
