STORYLINE:
Ukrainian forces of the 63rd Separate Mechanised Brigade fired artillery at Russian positions on Tuesday.

Military officials said Russia had escalated batt les in the Lyman area last month and artillery units have been deployed round the clock to repel Moscow's advance.

The officials expressed concern that, while they have enough weapons to maintain the momentum of the fight, they are fast running out of ammunition, particularly shells for the large Howitzer cannon.

Ukraine launched a much anticipated counter-offensive in June but it has advanced at a slower than expected pace due to tough Russian defenses and superior artillery and air power.
