Carta de ajuste de TVE (circa 1956)

Reconstrucción digital de la primera carta de ajuste usada por Televisión Española.

Diseñado por Eduardo Gavilán, ingeniero pionero de la televisión en España, este patrón se imprimía sobre un tablero o cartón al que se apuntaba directamente una cámara. Hasta donde sabemos, no se implementó dentro de un tubo monoscópico.

Siempre que llevo a cabo una reconstrucción, intento hacerla de forma correcta desde el punto de vista técnico. No está hecha "a ojo" con ningún programa de diseño gráfico o similar. Está realizada aplicando las matemáticas, intentando inferir las especificaciones originales a partir de las pobres capturas que circulan por internet.

Lo más interesante es la escala de resoluciones. Desde el centro de la diana hacia afuera, se tiene:

·500 TVLs de resolución: a una distancia 28.8 TVLs desde el centro del cuadro.
·400 TVLs: a 36.
·300 TVLs: a 48.
·250 TVLs: a 57.8.
·200 TVLs: a 72.
·150 TVLs: a 96.
·100 TVLs: a 144.

A falta de poder ver la carta original con detalle, para los abanicos de resolución de los círculos de las esquinas he decidido usar una relación de 100TVLs a una distancia de 72TVLs del centro de los banderines, es decir, la mitad que la del círculo central.

Para los parches de la escala de grises he elegido los siguientes valores de luminancia:

0.0 · 0.2 · 0.4 · 0.6 · 0.8

El valor de luminancia para el perímetro de los círculos de las esquinas es 0.7.

TVE TEST CARD (circa 1956)

Digital reconstruction of the first test card used by Televisión Española.

Designed by Eduardo Gavilán, Spanish TV pioneer engineer, this pattern was intended to be printed on a board, pointed directly by a TV camera. As far as I know, no monoscope tube implementation of the pattern existed at any time.

Whenever I make a test card replica, I try to do it correctly from a technical standpoint: instead of doing the things by eye, using Illustrator or similar tools, I have it done applying math, trying to infer the original specs from the poor captures that can be found on the internet.

The most interesting thing is the resolution scale. From the center of the circle and moving outwards, he have:

·500 TVLs of resolution: at 28.8 TVLs of distance, measured from the center of the frame.
·400 TVLs: at 36.
·300 TVLs: at 48.
·250 TVLs: at 57.8.
·200 TVLs: at 72.
·150 TVLs: at 96.
·100 TVLs: at 144.

Since I've never could see the original card with enough detail, for the resolution radials inside the corner circles I've decided to use the following relationship: 100 TVLs of resolution at a distance of 72TVLs, measured from the center of the little checkered flag.

For the greyscale patches I've chosen the following luminance values:

0.0 · 0.2 · 0.4 · 0.6 · 0.8

Luminance value for the perimeter of the corner circles is 0.7.
