The director leads a crew to the mysterious Skull Island to begin filming a movie starring the pretty and petite Ann (Naomi Watts), whose acting career in New York has hit a low point and this is her big chance to turn things around. They take a ship to the island, not realizing that they are about to have a close call on the island.
Just as the director is about to start filming, they are attacked by local natives and several of the crew are killed. The crew panicked and fled, but luckily set sail and left, only to find the heroine Ann missing.
It turns out that Ann has been captured by the savages and sacrificed. Ann's shrill screams of terror attract the attention of King Kong, the legendary ape of Skull Island. King Kong is so dominant on the island that even the dinosaurs are afraid of him. However, the beast falls in love with the beauty, and King Kong rescues Ann from her predicament, only to get himself into a tragedy!
