A microbiology training to strengthen anti-microbial resistance surveillance and control, and infection prevention and control was conducted at the Labasa Hospital in Fiji recently.

The training was organised and designed by SPC in collaboration with FNU, PIHOA, PPTC and WHO.

This training has been made possible through financial support from the Agence Française de Développement (AFD) and the European Union (EU) through the Scale up public health surveillance network services to strengthen health security in the Pacific project.

The Pacific Island Countries and Territories (PICTs) are particularly vulnerable to health security risks posed by emerging and re-emerging diseases, such as those caused by multi-resistant organisms and COVID-19.
This training comprised of theory and practical sessions given the need to strengthen health laboratory services to ensure timely, accurate and reliable diagnosis of infectious diseases.

The same training is currently being conducted at the Lautoka Hospital over this next 2 weeks.
