Pat Hughes is the primary author of Gracious Space: A Practical Guide for Working Better Together, published in 2004 by the Center for Ethical Leadership, and the lead author of Courageous Collaboration with Gracious Space: From Small Openings to Profound Transformation, published in 2011. Pat is the Senior Affiliate for Gracious Space, and provides frequent training and facilitation using the Gracious Space framework and practices.

Gracious Space is a core body of work developed by the Center for Ethical Leadership which has helped over 17,000 people in 40 states and 45 countries to work better together around critical issues. Gracious Space is a tool for change and collective leadership. Defined as a spirit and setting where we invite the stranger and learn in public, Gracious Space is an approach to relationships that creates opportunities for deeper listening and understanding, and encourages the creative potential of diverse views.

Pat is an enthusiastic facilitator and leadership educator who helps individuals, organizations and communities increase their leadership capacity. Driven to understand "how the world works," (and physics was out) Pat studied economics and international relations in college, travelled the world, then obtained a master's in Organization Systems Renewal. The owner of Trillium Leadership Consulting in Seattle, Pat provides customized services for reaching human potential, improving team leadership and managing organizational change. Also a Senior Partner at the Center for Ethical Leadership, Pat authored the Center’s best-selling books Gracious Space: A Practical Guide for Working Better Together, and Courageous Collaboration with Gracious Space: From Small Openings to Profound Transformation.
