“There is no such thing as bad weather, only inappropriate clothing.” – Sir Ranulph Fiennes

Kata Tjuta, formerly called "the Olgas", is the second major feature and attraction of Uluru-Kata Tjuta National Park. (The main one is of course Uluru.) There are 36 domes, all boasting different shapes and sizes that make up Kata Tjuta with Mount Olga being the highest point. It is a sacred site, with the name meaning ‘many heads’.

On the final day of our 3-day National Park Pass we set off early to explore the intriguing ochre-coloured domes of Kata Tjuta. Our first stop was the dune viewing platform, the perfect spot to take in the magnificent panorama at sunrise. Of course, the best bit of the Olgas, are the deep crevices that weave between the jutting peaks. So, we donned our hiking boots and made our way to the soaring rock domes to take a walk (or two) through the breath-taking and prehistoric landscape.

Despite the miserable weather, we made it our mission to complete the easier Walpa Gorge walk (tick), we then rewarded ourselves with a hot cuppa before tackling the Valley of the Winds walk. Unfortunately, the weather got the better of us and we stopped at the first lookout before heading back to the warmth of the car!

Fun Fact: Walpa means windy - so named for the refreshing winds that pass through the gorge! And Valley of The Winds seems to speak for itself … OMG, wish we’d have done our homework and worn appropriate clothing for this adventure!

If you’re going out to the Red Centre, you can’t miss the Olgas. This part of the country is rich in Aboriginal history and has incredible displays of scenery ... breath-taking! 💖👀

Time to hit the road!
