How to Create Rounded Bars Including Bottom in Chart JS

Create rounded bars in Chart JS is easily to do. However if you created it you might notice a missing part that does not match. It is known that the borderRadius option does not respond to the bottom of a bar chart in Chart JS. This creates the impression that the chartjs border radius is not working.

The chart.js-rounded-bar-charts namespace will not work out of the box as expected. Using the borderRadius gives you slightly different response. It does work but it works differently than expected.

There is a solution which is an quite easy fix. Once you understand that you will be able to solve and make rounded bars which includes the bottom or starting point of the bar as well.

To understand we need to know how the borders work in canvas. If you are used to css you would expect border radius respond similar as CSS but that is not the case. The canvas tag works with an canvas API which is written in javascript. Sounds all complicated but do not worry. The solution is quite quick! Let's explore!

What type of charts can you make with Chart.JS?
With chart js you can make line chart, bar chart, pie chart, doughnut chart, scatter chart, polar area chart, radar chart, gauge chart and area chart. And with some clever tricks and visual adjustment more can be done.
