What’s a Steamfitter?
A Steamfitter is a skilled tradesperson who installs, maintains and repairs piping systems that transport high-pressure substances like steam, water, chemicals and gases. These systems are essential, from HVAC systems regulating office building temperature to special systems for gas pipelines, hospitals, manufacturing facilities and more. Steamfitters possess skills like welding, are skilled trouble-shooters and perform physically demanding indoor and outdoor work. About Steamfitters Local 601:
Since the late 1800s, Local 601 has been the Steamfitters union serving the Milwaukee & Madison areas. Today it has nearly 3,0000 members. Local 601 is the Keeper of the Craft and trains and employs the next generation of craft steamfitters and HVAC professionals through a paid apprenticeship program, advanced HVAC training and welding training programs.
