Die „Carmina Burana“ ist eine Sammlung von mehr als 200 mittelalterliche Liedern, Gedichten und Texten. Aus der Fülle an Texten hat der deutsche Autor, Regisseur und Dramaturg Thomas Höft zwölf Gedichte selektiert, durch gesprochene Zwischentexte ergänzt und so zu einer fortlaufenden Erzählung zusammengefasst. Die ausgewählten Gedichte sind „Texte des Widerstandes“ (Höft), die heute so aktuell sind wie zur Zeit ihrer Entstehung: sie prangern die Geldversessenheit der Gesellschaft an und die Gnadenlosigkeit, mit der die behandelt werden, die nichts haben. Aber nicht nur in der Gesellschaft wartet das Verderben, auch im eigenen Leib. Denn die Natur lockt mit allen Versuchungen der Leidenschaft. Welchen Ausweg könnte es daraus geben? Persönliche Verantwortungsübernahme. Das Bedenken der Konsequenzen der eigenen Taten. Die Vernunft. Sonst bleibt nichts. Besser könnte man es heute auch nicht sagen.
Zwölf international renommierte europäische Komponistinnen und Komponisten haben jeweils einen der ausgewählten Texte vertont. So entstand ein vielschichtiges, in sich geschlossenes abendfüllendes Chorwerk.

The "Carmina Burana" is a collection of more than 200 medieval songs, poems and texts. From the abundance of texts, the German author, director and dramaturge Thomas Höft has selected twelve poems, supplemented them with spoken texts and thus combined them into a continuous narrative. The selected poems are “texts of resistance” (Höft), which are as relevant today as they were at the time they were written: they denounce society's obsession with money and the mercilessness with which those who have nothing are treated. But ruin is not only waiting in society, also in one's own body. Because nature beckons with all the temptations of passion. What way out could there be? Personal assumption of responsibility. Thinking the consequences of one's own actions. Reason. Otherwise nothing remains. It couldn't be said any better today.
Twelve internationally renowned European composers have each set one of the selected texts to music. The result was a complex, self-contained, full-length choral work.
