KUNDA MALAILA TRADITIONAL CEREMONY ASSOCIATION ADOPTS NEW CONSTITUTION

The Kunda Malaila Traditional Ceremony Association has adopted a revised constitution aimed at strengthening the preservation and management of the Malaila traditional ceremony.

The new document, known as Draft Two, was approved during the Association’s 2026 Annual General Meeting held at Chitempa Primary School at Chief Mnkhanya’s palace.

Chairperson of the Constitution Amendments Committee, John Chilowa, says the revised constitution provides a strong framework for organizing the Malaila ceremony, addressing issues of cultural authority, governance, financial accountability, intellectual property protection, and unity.

The constitution recognizes Malaila as a sacred and intangible cultural heritage and introduces binding rules on media control, sponsorship branding, and cultural protocols to prevent misuse and commercial exploitation.

Governance and accountability have been strengthened through clear leadership structures, transparent elections, and improved financial controls, while regional committees have been empowered with defined roles.

Kunda Royal Establishment Deputy Media Director, Father William Vwapu, says the change of name to Kunda Malaila Traditional Ceremony Association reflects the true identity of the Kunda people and clarifies the organization’s mandate.

The revised constitution aligns the Association with the Societies Act, NGO governance standards, and customary law, enhancing credibility with government and cooperating partners.

The Kunda Royal Establishment has formally mandated the Association to organize the Malaila ceremony, strengthening royal oversight and community confidence.
