"Vila Praia de Âncora is a Portuguese parish in the municipality of Caminha, with an area of ​​8.15 km² and 4623 inhabitants (2021 census).

It was elevated to the category of village on July 5, 1924, and its official name was then changed from Santa Marinha de Gontinhães to Vila Praia de Âncora. In 1922 the locality and the river were known as Amora. It is the most populous village and parish in the municipality of Caminha.

Located at the end of a valley protected to the north by Serra D'Arga and to the south by Monte de Santa Luzia, Vila Praia de Âncora is a fishing village full of traditions. The river Âncora divides the beach, awarded with the Blue Flag: the northern part, where a small pool forms, suitable for children's games, is delimited by a pier, close to Forte do Lagarteiro and a small fishing port; the southern part, which is accessed through a bridge reserved for pedestrians, is shaped by a dune cordon, protected by long wooden walkways."
