Kansas State Senator Chris Steineger, (Republican) Kansas City, was first elected in 1996, served four terms and was defeated for re-election in Nov. 2012. He has experience at all three levels of American government, including staffing for U.S. Representative Jim Slattery in Washington, D.C. (1988-89); Assistant in the City Administrators office in Kansas City (1992); and as a tax auditor and collector with the Kansas Department of Revenue (1993-94). He has also worked in the private and non-profit sectors. Senator Steineger public policy focuses include: 1) early childhood education; 2) health care restructuring for lower costs and insurance for all Americans; 3) sustainable energy sources & uses; 4) consolidation of local governments for cost efficiency and better decision making. He served 14 years as a Democrat and in 2010 switched to Republican.

Chris is a global traveler, learner, speaker & educator who has visited more than 40 countries including Western & Eastern Europe, the Middle East, South East Asia, China, Japan, Taiwan, Mexico, India, Israel, Turkey, Azerbaijan, & Cuba. He lives in Kansas City, Kansas, with his wife, Shari. Together they develop and manage residential real estate property, specializing in restoration of historic buildings.
