This weeks Super Mario Bros. 35 Special Battle is all the 3rd stages from each world. It's called the Athletic Course Battle, which to me sounds like we're supposed to be running as fast we can and jumping as far as possible, but we're going to do the opposite.
For this No Running Challenge, we're going to walk, nay STROLL through the courses. Can we get a win?! I honestly don't know, they don't let me watching these videos before writing these things!

Super Mario Bros. 35 is the new Super Mario battle royale game on Nintendo Switch! 35 Marios enter, 1 survives! We're currently honing and documenting our strategy, and just because we don't win every game doesn't mean the strategies aren't sound. I'm just very careless sometimes!

This series of videos is gameplay/let's play/playthrough of Mario 35 where I try to win/unlock levels/climb the leaderboard. I'm fairly familiar with Super Mario Bros. for the NES, I have a few first place trophies for a specific speedrun that I compete in every year. I don't take myself too seriously, this is all for fun!

Here's our current strategy for highest number of coins:
Go fast! You get bonus coins for number of stages complete and (I think) distance travelled. Going fast also means you're collecting more coins, killing more enemies, etc.
Unless there's an easy kill lined up, go for targeting the person with the most coins. You get their coins when you kill them.
I don't know how to strategize this other than pray your opponents do well. The longer they stay alive, the longer the games goes, giving you more time to do everything!
Pick later stages when possible. If you beat a new stage it gets added to your available stages. This might not necessarily help with leaderboards, but unlocking levels is nice :)

Here's the strategy/pro tips from before for just winning a round:
Go slow!
Be super careful around holes. Holes cause 75% of our deaths.
Fire Flower is key! Always have fire flower or know where your next one is coming from.
Stages 1-1 and 1-2 are our bread and butter. Not as many holes and good opportunities to build up enemies for a massive star invincibility run! 1-2 especially since you can hit the warp at the end and choose the next stage.
Stage 2-2 is a water level which are very safe since you can't fall into a hole AND the enemies you send are cheep cheeps and bloopers. You will lose time however since fire ball kills only reward 1 second.
Coins are very important later in the stage for getting out of tight spots. It seems like I've always accumulated 1000+ coins while my competition has 100-200. Collect coins if you have the time! Every 20 coins is a random item!
Let enemies stack up in front of you near stars. When you kill enemies, it sends them to another competitors screen. Cluster it as much as possible.
The timer goes faster sometimes... maybe because we haven't killed an enemy in a while? Do not ignore it.
